Local High School Student To Become “Chief For A Day ”CHEYENNE, Wyo.—Jadera Mallo, who is a junior at Triumph High School, won the essay contest, “If I were police chief for a day how would I bridge the gap between the police and the community”.

This was the essay contest that was part of the National Faith & Blue Weekend held back in October. She will be sworn in as the Cheyenne Police Chief on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 9:00 AM in the Chief’s Office.

At that time, Chief Kozak will relinquish his badge to her and become her assistant. The media is encouraged to attend during the swearing-in ceremony and her meetings throughout the day. Immediately following the ceremony, Chief Mallo will be briefed by the command staff on the first Municipal Court Warrant Task Force, which will take place that morning.

She will then attend a briefing of police officers at 9:30 AM before they go out to work; she is expected to give encouraging comments and expectations to the officers. Chief Mallo will then go to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter to discuss the importance of spay and neutering pets.

Later in the day, Chief Mallo will meet with students at Triumph High School to solicit feedback on how the Police Department can better engage our youth. If time allows, Chief Mallo will attend traffic stop training, which our new officers will be involved in, and tour the Municipal Juvenile Court.

Since the winning essay came from a Triumph High School student, Chief Kozak will fill the role of a school resource officer at Triumph High School on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. He will attend several classes to answer questions about policing. The winning essay can be read by going to www.cheyennepd.org/essaywinner
